PROJECT: EUROPEAN WEEK OF JUDO VALUES

ABOUT TO LAUNCH

As you might know, a bond our organization has with sports is long-lasting and above all, meaningful. We have always tried to operate on the basis of sports-for-all paradigm. Not only at the level of physical activity, but especially at the level of values and value sport has for everyday life, individuals, communities, society. It is never just about sports.

Judo is a perfect example of good practice. Technical and value-wise. Dojo inevitably creates an atmosphere where Friendship, Honour, Respect, Modesty, Politeness, Courage, Self-control, Sincerity, Inclusion come in play. As an educational tool, it deserves more attention and exploration of potential it has to transform society.

As we want to nurture values of sports and especially Judo, we have applied for Erasmus+ project, in collaboration with historical and professional sports organizations from Slovenia’s Sports Society GIB (Športno društvo GIB), Croatia’s Rječki sportski savez to Portugal’s Escola de Judo Nuno Delgado.

COOPERATION

Professionals, coaches, young Judokas, parents, organizations, everyone.

Project is supported by national/European Judo organizations – Slovenian Judo Federation, Federacao Portugesa de Judo, Croatian Olympic Committee and European Judo Union.

Promoting ethical and healthy values through the practice of Judo. To emphasize a potential Judo has as an educational tool not just for Judo community but for general public, society and peace.

We will organize 3 simultaneous events in Ljubljana (Slovenia), Rijeka (Croatia) and Lisbon (Portugal). This autumn, we will align them with European Week of Sport, lasting from 23.9–30.9.

OUR PURPOSE

Legacy. We want to push the legacy Judo had for centuries even further and wider. We strive to make a lasting impact from the project, by making it an annual event.

A reminder. Judo is a tool, but also a reminder – peace is something that needs practice to become a natural living condition of peoples.

Play for Peace has a new Logo: European Week of Judo Values

Play for Peace!
Let’s BeActive and Let’s Play for Peace!

Let’s BeActive! First face-to-face meeting

Today, the first face-to-face meeting of our Erasmus+ project, the EWJV/European Week of Judo Values, took place. Me and Sofia Cachada, for EJND, will be meeting for two days in the beautiful city of Rijeka, together with our partners GIB, EJU and the hosts, RSS. The first day was very productive and we are on our way to create an innovative project to promote the values of judo, sport and health during the European Week of Sport. Let’s BeActive!

The second official CA meeting of the European Judo of Week Values

The second official CA meeting of the European Judo of Week Values was a female victory! As has been the case in this Erasmus+ program, which EJND, together with the RSS clubs from Croatia and GIB from Slovenia, is developing, women are in a clear majority. A sign of the times, to their credit, and a portrait of Judo, the first sport to include mixed pairs in Olympic competitions. Promoting the Values of Judo throughout Europe, as it should be.

Academic phase of the Erasmus+ project European Week of Judo Values

We have entered the “academic phase” of the Erasmus+ project “European Week of Judo Values” (EWJV), with the first meeting of its Technical-Scientific Committee, carried out digitally. Led by the GIB Club from Slovenia, and with the participation of the RSS Club from Croatia, in addition to the Education Department of the European Judo Union, and the EJND itself, as the EWJV Coordinator and, in this case, represented by me and our Professor Sofia Cachada. This Commission is responsible for the literary research of internationally published studies on the subject, in order to identify the best didactic programs and initiatives related to judo values – in terms of ethics and health – which will then be disseminated to all interested parties through an e-learning course. As Jita Kyoei advocates: Prosperity and Mutual Benefits!

Kick-off meeting of 3 partners

24 February

And the kick-off was this morning! The first official meeting of the “European Judo of Week Values”, an Erasmus+ program that EJND won, together with two other clubs, RSS from Croatia and GIB from Slovenia.

It will run throughout 2023, simultaneously in the 3 countries, and will bring great news to our community, from the creation of tools for training coaches, to events to promote and disseminate judo, the sporting activity (and Olympic modality) recommended by UNESCO as one of the most suitable sports for children and young people, as it provides integrated physical, psychological and social development (concentration, discipline and sense of ethics).

Through the 8 values of the Moral Code that governs all Samurai (“one who serves”) and all Onna-bugeisha (the female term): Courtesy, Courage, Friendship, Sincerity, Respect, Self-control, Honor and Modesty.

And fulfilling the principle of judo, Jita Kyoei: “Mutual benefit and prosperity for all”!
